Citadel was founded in 1995 by Liz Hare and Millie Gray to foster the creatitivity of older people through community projects in theatre and living memory. We have developed and performed new plays by older writers in a variety of community venues such as schools, community centres, residential homes, a miners' club, the National Library of Scotland and South Leith Church Hall, as well as theatres such North Edinburgh Arts, the Storytelling Centre, and Diverse Attractions on the Fringe. Citadel has delivered living memory projects in Leith, Kirkliston, Dalkeith and Penicuik where we developed and performed a full length community play based on the memories we collected. In all our projects we aim to involve local communities and bring together people of different generations. Our funders include the Robertson Trust, Scottish Community Foundation, City of Edinburgh Council Community Grants, Leith and Central Neighbourhood Partnerships, Awards for All, the NHS and Scottish Arts Council.
