North West Training Centre Woodcraft Workshop 2

During the second workshop session a variety of items were made.  Different forms of bookends were produced, some using chisels to carve out the joints and others using glue allowing for more time to be spent on the decoration.  The lathe was also used and the base for a bedside lamp was turned, using the chisel to create a intricate pattern.  The tutor then demonstrated how to create the central core using a special tool for boring through the centre, providing a space for the electrical cable to be fitted.  The base of the lamp was then dressed with teak oil.  A fish shaped platter was made using hardwood and a matching chorizo board to compliment the platter gave a pleasing  finished product.  Olive oil was used to finish the platter and chorizo board as they would be used as a food surface.  The variety and quality of items produced belied the expertise of tutor Allan Cunningham being on hand to guide and assist inexperienced learners with the greatest of ease.  All of the learners are eager to continue and build on the skills learnt.  It is hoped that we can provide further tuition in the coming season of workshops planned.
