Piping Weekend a Great Success

Fèis na h-Òige is a voluntary group who provides tuition and activities in traditional music, song and crafts through the medium of Gaelic. The organisation has been on the go since 1992 and we hold various events throughout the year. Our main event is held during the summer holidays and we run regular after-school classes. As a new development we decided to add a residential element to our activities, hence Fèis Phìobaireachd agus Drummaireachd came to light.

Our event took place at Badaguish (Aviemore) on the 26th – 28th August. We had three woodland chalets, one for the participants, one for the tutors and one for the classes to take place in. This was ideal as we could make as much noise as we liked without disturbing anyone else.

Seventeen participants aged between ten an fifteen, from all over the North took part in the weekend and we had a great team of tutors and supervisors including our resident Gaelic –speaking cook Fiona.

Participants feedback from the weekend has been really positive, they all really enjoyed having the opportunity to combine outdoor activity sessions along with tuition in small groups which let them work at their own level and learn loads of new tunes and skills.

We are very grateful to everyone who made this event such a success, particularly our funders.

Fèis Phìobaireachd agus Drummaireachd was funded by Voluntary Arts Scotland’s Make a Splash! grant scheme – part of People Making Waves, co-ordinated by Volunteer Development Scotland.
