Tomintoul Music Day

Our first workshop part-funded through the 'Make a Splash' scheme was held in Tomintoul Primary School on Saturday 24th April

Local  children in primary 4 to 7 had the chance to join classes in fiddle, guitar and percussion, tutored by professional musicians Charlie Mckerron, Innes Watson and Dave Martin, whilst Gaelic singer Sandra Mackay led a varied programme of song, art and Gaelic activities for children in P1 to 3.

We were made most welcome by the school staff, some of whom joined us for the day and ran outdoor activities at break and lunchtime to keep the participants gamefully occupied all day!

The day finished with a short performance from two more experienced groups of musicians - the Badenoch based Bear Creek Reelers (aged 8 to 14), who had enjoyed a training session with Jim Hunter and the newly formed Cairngorms Cèilidh Trail band for 2010. The latter is a group of 8 young traditional musicians, aged 16 to 18, who will be touring the Cairngorms National PArk in July.
