Willow Workshop with Mike Ellis at North West Training Centre

We were pleased to welcome expert Woodsman Mike Ellis and his assistant Ryan from Helmsdale to deliver a willow workshop at North West Training Centre.  Mike explained the principles of using Willow as a windbreak and a fedge with practical demonstrations for preparing and planting the willow.  He also demonstrated techniques for safe use of knives when stripping side shoots and bark.   These skills with willow are particularly useful in our community which is exposed and remote with little tree cover in North West Scotland.   The day was bright and sunny and so was the mood of the group who were pleased to learn new skills in the company of new friends.
