Gardening by the sea
I spent around ten days this spring in Orkney working on the Edible Egilsay project, and what an amazing time it was! I went to explore sustainable living and the Orkney Islands. I learned so much in such a short space of time, I now feel even more confident in growing a host of vegetables and herbs as well as how to construct a cloche, set up a water system and sustainably catch sea food! It was an amazing and open learning experience which I recount regularly and gave me an insight into how we can live with minimal impact on the planet. I now feel that growing food is the basis for escaping from a fossil-fuel dependant lifestyle and believe more than ever that it is possible for normal people to dramatically reduce energy demands, which is necessary to curb greenhouse gases.
